Roll-fed labeling is an ideal solution for high-speed wrap-around labeling of containers you see every day, such as soft drinks, water bottles, jars, and other food containers, household items, and many more. It is widely used due to its accuracy, the low cost of roll-fed labels, and the ability to run at high speeds. However, this technology has its challenges. Traditionally, roll-fed labels are cut by blades on a rotating cutting drum. Glue is then applied to the cut label after it transfers to a rotating vacuum transfer drum. This process can result in excess glue on the transfer drum, along with glue stringing that requires cleaning, often multiple times per shift. Additionally, the complex cutting blades are difficult to set up, require costly slip rings and complex servo-driven motors.
After years of testing and developing, P.E. Labellers, a ProMach product brand, has introduced their new Roll-Fed Simpl-Cut labeling system that eliminates many of these issues. With Simpl-Cut technology, hot-melt adhesive is applied before the label is cut, allowing the label roll itself to protect the drum from glue residue contact and build-up. Additionally, with Simpl-Cut labelers, the traditional cutting drum has been eliminated and the cutting blades have been integrated into the transfer drum. This eliminates the complexity of the traditional servo-driven knife system by using a vacuum drum to pull the label over the fixed knife. With Simpl-Cut, the cutting blades can be changed out in less than 2 minutes, as opposed to 2 hours in traditional roll-fed labelers.
